New York City, Miscellanea

Following up on yesterday’s emigration statistics, United Van Lines Migration Study was published last week.  Interesting data that supports the notion of a New York City/New York State (and tri-state region in general) emigration trend.

Sometimes, when walking around NYC, we try to guess whether the people we see are moving in, moving out, or moving within the city based upon the time of the month, the level of stuff (people moving in to the city always overestimate the size of NYC apartments, always), and how the moving process is going (if it’s only a few people, it’s probably only an inter-city move, if the whole family is taking part, it’s probably something else).  It would be interesting to find NYC specific truck rental data for a more specific analysis (i.e. how many U-Haul vans are rented in the city and returned somewhere else).
